School Council

Welcome to our School Council page!

We are busy working away behind the scenes to find out what is important to the children and see how we can help the school. Here is what is going on at the moment:

The council met on Tuesday 26th January.

We had a very successful meeting where the main topic of discussion was safety in school. The chairperson and secretary ensured the meeting went very smoothly. We decided to focus on safety on the timber trail after all class representitives put forward their views. We were ableto complete a set of rules and they will appear on the trail this week.

Minutes of the meeting held on 26th January 2010

After consulting all classes the council approved the new rules for the Timber Trail. The rules will now be typed up and displayed next to the trail.

After hearing concerns from children about gates to the playground being left open; Mrs Wilson has asked a man to make the gates close on their own. She is waiting for him to come back to school to do it.

The final aspect of safety around school that the council want to change is that of electrical sockets. Morgan and Sam are going to count the number of sockets in classrooms that are not covered. This information will then be given to Mrs Wilson and hopefully she will buy covers.

The size of school dinners was again mentioned and all agreed that this was still an issue. In addition to this a number of children mentioned that they would like sandwiches and baguettes to be put back on the menu. Mr Satchwell suggested that Amy and Abbey attend the SNAG meeting (a group set up by Mrs McKintyre to meet with the kitchen manager) in order to pass on the council’s views.

The council raised the issue of putting up chairs on tables at the end of the day. The feeling was that this is dangerous. Mr Satchwell will speak to the cleaners and teachers and discuss this again.

There was a request for tennis balls to be allowed at playtimes again. The feeling was that using them improves hand to eye co-ordination. The council agreed it could be allowed if an area was designated. Mr Satchwell will speak to Mrs Wilson about this.

The council also talked about the absence of playground buddies. All agreed that they are good for playtimes and should be reintroduced. Alistair and Morgan will compile a list of Yr 1/2/3 children who would like to be buddies and Taylor will get a list of 4/5/6 children. Mr Satchwell will then arrange for this to happen. It was also noted that the children may need training.

Finally, the council expressed the wish to hold a cake sale for charity. It was agreed that a good one to support at the moment might be Haiti. Mr Childs is planning an event so the two could be combined.

The next meeting will be held just after half term.
