We had a fantastic day at Lower Smite Farm. Our focus was to find out more about rocks and soil!

We began by looking at soil and seeing what soil is actually made up of. We looked at the layers of the soil and used an auger to dig down to find topsoil, sub-soil and bedrock. After lunch, we used many different ways to help us identify rocks and sort them into three categories - sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic. Finally, we investigated how sedimentary rock can change into metamophic rock through heat and pressure.
