Year 1 and 2

Welcome to Year 1 and 2

Welcome to Year 1 and 2. Here you can find information about Miss Haycocks' class (1SH), Mrs Waters' class (1 and 2 SW) and Mrs Heath's class (2LH). We are really looking forward to all the great learning we will be doing this year.

We are lucky to have lots of staff working with us this year:

Miss Haycocks will be supported by Mrs Hull (Mon, Tues, Thurs and Fri) and Miss Sargent (Wednesdays). Mr Forrester will also teach on a Thursday morning.

Mrs Waters will be supported by Mrs Bates. Mrs Patel will be teaching on Wednesdays.

Mrs Heath will be supported by Mrs Dusconi. Mrs Hartley will be teaching on Fridays.

                            PE Days

PE will be on Monday for Mrs Heath and Mrs Waters' classes.

PE will be on Wednesday for Miss Haycocks' class.

On these days, you will need to come to school wearing your school PE kit (white t-shirt, black or navy shorts/joggers and trainers). In cold weather make sure you wear your joggers and a fleece. Please remember to name all of your kit. Those children who have their ears pierced should either take their earrings out on this day or cover them with tape.

Reading

Reading is very important in Year 1 and Year 2.  Your child will read daily at school either one-to-one or in their phonics sessions.   We ask that adults at home hear children read at least 3 times each week and note this in your reading record so that you can earn rewards and prizes.

Behaviour

At Comberton, we are always trying to show that we are READY, RESPECTFUL and SAFE which is how we reflect on our expected behaviours. Children should be ready to learn, respectful to all and act in a safe way at all times.

If you have any questions for us, you can email us at year1@comberton.worcs.sch.uk (Miss Haycocks and Mrs Waters direct link) or year2@comberton.worcs.sch.uk (Mrs Heath direct link) and we’ll try our best to help.

Key Information

  • Reading book and reading record – Please bring these to school every day. Once children have read their books at least twice the adults at school will change these. The colour of the book is determined by the children's phonics assessment and children will continue to re-read these books until they are ready to move to the next group.

  • Homework – Please read at home a minimum of 3 times a week and login to Numbots at least twice a week.

  • A good attitude – We have lots to learn and we need to show good listening, determination, perseverance, tolerance, respect, collaboration and most importantly we need to take responsibility for our own learning.
